Does anyone know how many reptiles you can have with and without a licence? and where can i go 2 get a licence and how much do they cost etc. i have no idea about licences so any help is appreciated

Cheers
Peter

Without a basic (or specialist) permit, you can keep one protected animal listed under the basic schedule. If you are to get more than that, a basic permit is required, which costs approx $50 annually. Once you have a permit, there is no quota on the amount of animals you can keep.

If I remember correctly, there are a few herps you can have as many as you want off license.

Blue Tongues and Bynoe's Geckos are two of them.

But yeah, the licensed animals you can have one off license.

You might as well just get a permit, cheap and easy.

yeah, ill get one :) i wanna geta jungle python when i get some space nd cash :)

Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Permits for animals in captivity

yeah some things are exempt. pretty sure theyre listed on a section of the "basic animals" list

licenses expire at the end of every financial year in SA (unless you paid for a few years)

so if you get one now it'll expire on the 30th...

the forms say how long processing takes; max ten days.

Im so sick of posting this link/info.

google people.

Hey!! I'm going to apply for a reptile license over the phone, how long it would take for me to get it?

Thanks jessie

You won't actually be able to "get one over the phone" - you need to sign for it... Hop onto the site that Vampstorso has given you, download the PDF file Application for Basic Keep and Sell, fill it out, sign it, fax it off (kinda over the phone! ;))

Licenses generally take about a week (two weeks tops) to come back... if all goes well, and you don't have any "previous issues" with animals...

Hope this helps!

Best,
Carolyn
