Is it possible that none of the antibiotics weren't working because he didn't have pneumonia? In that case, I'd say the antibiotics themselves were very harmful to a snake with nothing wrong with it...

Some antibiotics can damage scales etc. Have you got betadine? Dab the lesions with betadine then swab with silvazine cream. Snakes will repeatedly shed when they are sick or after a period of sickness they start to come into good health.

If anything i would suspect those lesions were caused from scale rot or from a bad reaction to the wrong antibiotics.

It is an S4 prescribed cream. So you need to get a doctors prescription to buy it from a pharmacy. Vets can sell it to you, but its about $25.00 more for a tube of it from the vet. A vet nurse told me that, silvazine is prescribed in bad cases of sunburn etc. I'd rather pay $10 per tube than $34 from the vets.

Hope that helps.

Wow, has he always been that lumpy?
About the eggs mine had, at that time it was a bad thing, The reason I mentioned it was because I use a large vet group who (only) has two vets that deal with herps.
In defense of the vets, they need to know "everything" about alot of different animals.
A doctor can refer you to a specialist or whatever and they "only" need to know about the human body. Point is it's unfair to expect vets to know it all.

Wounds do look clean. I hope it works out for you. Thanks for pics maybe some one will know what else to do. With eight different antibiotics, I am wondering if he has been over treated, antibiotics are essentially chemotherapy.

Oh jee the poor fella looks awful.. well I hope you make the right decision for him! Definitely keep us updated

i have betadine in the bathroom, but where would i come across 'silvazine cream'?
is it something id get from a pharmacy or a pet shop?

The stuff your using seems to be working. I don't know how you would keep silvazine on the snake (without it rubbing off). If you know any nurses or other health professionals they could "borrow some" but I am not sure how moist wound healing works for snakes.

lol yes, hes always been that lumpy.
he used to be worse... the lumps and bumps kinda spread out with age, as his whole body grew bigger.
...hes not a very good swimmer. lol.

and i totally agree about the vets. it would be hard to know everything about so many different species.

Im studying animal care this semester - vet nursing next semester, and hopefully vet science at uni after that. So im looking forward to being able to help people and their pets out in a few years time, with the relevant qualifications to doso (and hopefully the experience aswell).

This little fella is a good learning curve as well as an awesome little friend :D

barbed wire, you are to be commended for the effort you are putting into this poor creature. I do so hope you succeed with him, it would be such a shame o see this all go for nothing (so to speak)............. I wish you all the luck with him, and would love to know how he goes. once again , ALL the best to you, and your little friend.

hehe thanks alot.
i hope he pulls thru too.
though i dont think its all for nothing, everyday spent with a creature like him is definately in enlightening experience.
sometimes its the ones that have it tough that have the personality to make up for it :)
so if i can do anything to give him another year, month, day, then i have no hesitation in trying my best.
lol.
thanks for the support.

Try these two vets.Give them a call and ask if they would be willing to let you pay off the bill rather than waiting until you save up some money. If travelling to North Sydney is an option for you I would recommend David Vella. He is a very good herp vet and his charges are reasonable,on top of that he is a very nice guy.

yup, i called around and the fella at wyoming is $51 consult plus whatever drugs etc. which is awesome.
so im gonna make an appointment and see how we go.
I'll keep everyone posted.
thanks alot to everyone who reply'd and helped out.
i appreciate it a lot!

just found this thread and my thoughts are with you... i say good on you for being there for him and like the others have said i think and feel that you will know if and when he should be put down, at the moment if your willing to put in the effort let him live esp if there is something that can be done for him.
i would be asking about the water bowl ( putting the larger back in?) from what i have heard a bigger water bowl will actually help the shed.
also when my MD got injured i was told that he would shed a lot more than the norm, in the end he didnt because he healed really well.
But it seems like your in a vicious circle ... not sure where it started but the reason he may not be eating might be because he is in shed mode, the reson he is in shed mode is because he's trying to heal?
Could he have a little bit of shed left on that eye?
anyways keep us posted please :)
and well done

Thanks :)
yeah, ive put the larger bowl back, and hes loving it.
and i thought the same thing about the eye, but everytime hes shed ive made sure to get the eye pieces off.
i think its just that the 1st time i left it on too long (coz we had heaps of trouble getting it off) and its been like that ever since.
On the bright side (well kinda) hes been paying nice close attention to my little lorrikeet lol.
hopefully he'll eat something soon... and i hope its a mouse, not the bird :)
