Hi,
I was just wondering if heating for a smooth knob tailed is essential?
I know that it helps them digest food and be active. Also is handling geckos okay? I have heard that u shouldnt handle them?, even though there tails rarely drop.
If you could help, i will appriciate it

Yes heating is necessary unless you live in a warm climate. They should be maintained at 28 - 30 degrees at the hot end of the cage.

I handle my geckos every day, all are used to this and are very tame, eating from tongs.

We have ours heated, and we live in Ipswich/Brisbane.
My son uses a heat mat under the end of their tank, which is fairly large.
He turned off the mat for a short time when we had those very hot days over summer, but otherwise it's on.
As far as handling, tails dropping off was something I was worried about when we first got them, but experience so far shows they are hardier than I thought.

Heat is also imported for humidity for shedding. Keep one end of the enclosure slightly moist and if a third of your enclosure is heated you shouldn't have any problems. They are a joy to keep.
