A friend recently altered a guard for a heat lamp. He has painted it with a paint that tolerates 1809 degrees. I am concerned about the fumes that it is emmitting and have removed it from my Spotted Python's tank. Can anyone tell me whether or not this is a concern.

Hi Christina,

I use a caliper paint to colour reflector globes, this is designed to put up with high temps, I know other use engine paint to, but I always air for a few days before puting in with the animals.

I would just ask to make sure you know what the paint is used for and if it has been used on his reptiles light guards. It will probably be ok, but your right to be cautious as some paints will have higher, more toxic fumes than others.
