i`m picking up my coastal hatchlings in a couple of weeks & wanted to know
what the consenus is on UV lighting ?
i previously had an adult coastal which i used a UV basking spot light but have
now read that most snakes dont require a UV light source, is this correct ?
or do i use a UV to be on the safe side ?

all help appreciated

Big debate and lets not go into it here! You can use it if you want. As dickyknee said it wont hurt. I tend to just take mine out into the sun on the weekend for a hour or two! So if they do need any they are getting it!

You might want to use the search function to see some of the gazillion posts on uv lighting.

IMHO a complete waste of time for coastals.

hmmmm don't diamond pythons need uv.

The thought from diamonds needing UV stems from their "Diamond Python Syndrome" problems, that seem calcium related... though most experienced keepers of diamonds will tell you it is a heating issue that is the cause.....as they also suffer from "DPI" when kept in outdoor avairies.

I don't use UV, But a day night cycle probably would be a good idea. From what I just read on the subject, there is no proof either way, it just recommends a 2% UVB concentration for carpets and a higher % for diamonds. I guess its up to your own discretion.

I use to have uv tubes in the snake tanks, but now i just put any old fluro tube in there. Just so there is a day night cycle and i can see the tank.
