It is getting quite cold at night now ( 10 degrees ) and I have to get Fatso some heat in there. Would a blue or red party light globe in a desk lamp be ok for the night or would it keep him awake?

If anyone has experience with party lights and heating, please reply. Other beardie keepers are free to reply too.lol:lol:

a red light or a flat round ceramic heat emitter would do the job

lots of heating sources on ebay if your looking for something

i use infared heat lights for my beardies.
theyre good coz they keep it heated and dont disturb theyre sleep.
perfect for the cold nights

If I got a heatmat I would stick it to the side of the tank so as not to burn the beardie. So....I'm guessing no one uses party lights for beardies at night time?

beardies like over their back heat rather than heatmat heat ,,,,
thats is correct, heat from above,
not heat mats,

yes a red or dark blue/purple party light would be fine.
but wild animals do not get heat at night, and captive ones don't either

No, a red or dark blue/purple party light would not be fine.
they are cheap ,but they are not designed for reptiles and arnt infrared.

cheers

That wouldn't be my primary heat source and I have a UVB light in the day that keeps it to near 40c.

Would sticking a heat cord around the top half of the tank be another option?

Your UV light puts out heat? What's it called? Is it mercury vapor or something?

And as many others have said, they don't need any heat at night. If you're really that worried about it just throw a blanket over the enclosure or something.

It is a compact reptisun 10 bulb. I could only get the compact cause the fluro wouldn't fid in my tank's light fitting. The good thing is I don't need an extra heat source in the day.

Are you asking about party lights because you do not have a creamic light fitting ?

What do you have against ceramic heat emitters. They are designed specifically for this purpose.

I run a ceramic on a thermostat at 16 deg, to cover night time temps. Then have a 50w fan light that brings the temp up to high 30's during the day. I also have a basking spot that I put on manually, (of an evening and before feedings).

No I don't have a ceramic light fitting so I was wondering what else was out there. Fatso has a nigt temp of 15 degrees and a daytime temp of 30. It seems fine for now. I will be building a bigger enclosure soon so I might have to change the wattage of my daily heat light.

Btw I wish I got a heat mat for my crickets. We have had some frosty nights and they all died on me!! :(

my whole herp room in heated so my crix live in there :) otherwise, my beardies dont get heat at night but the whole room stays around 18C overnight because of the ambient room temp.

Another one here who doesn't heat Beardies at night - they warm up just fine when the heat light comes on in the morning.

I'm surprised you get high enough day temps with only a compact fluoro, those are not meant for heating and don't put out much IR. Nor do they really provide enough brightness.

I turn all of the lights off during the night, just provide a heap of hiding places where they can curl up and sleep.

If you're still worried, I would use a ceramic heat emitter.

people still insist on heating at night, they don't need it, it's rediculous..

so you dont have a basking spot? from my understanding your using a UVB light to provide heat please tell me im wrong? fluorescents lights barely provide any heat, also dont use heat mats or especially heat rocks they get there heat from top, also use ceramic heaters they cost a little bit more but last longer, if you want to use a incandescent type bulb use only infra red as the light waves from them are invisible to them as those party lights have a strip up top thet emits normal light out, which will disturb your dragons sleep, the ones ive seen do anyways,
there should be no reason to heat your dragons at night, unless your temps are droping 5 degree and lower i wouldnt be concerned at all

so IMO your wasting money and time,
