I would definitely contact Vic Parks and Wildlife. Please let us know how you go with it. It's so sad to hear this. Goodness knows how long they have been exposed to these conditions.

Goodluck with it and I sincerely hope there is some resolution with it.
it haqs gone on for years since i was a litle kid

no haters are not bad but when there heating it with a bathroom heater i think it is

well ive never heard of people useing them they may not be bad eating but when there is branches very close to it and is the jungle gose to close to it it will burn him

I'm not trying to create an argument, or condone the use of a bathroom heater. But i'm sure everyone has seen horrific pics of burns from light bulbs, also heat rocks.

Maybe if I had a very large enclosure and an enormous python I might consider an oil filled column heater, with an inbuilt thermostat.

OK who am I kidding? While I appreciate some of the creative solutions to keeping your herps, and cost saving options, (we all know that anything marked for reptiles is incredibly overpriced). I still think that a basic fit for purpose test should be applied.

Are we talking a radiant heater, and IXL Tastic, a fan heater, heated towel rack. More detail please.

So how is a bathroom heater better than a standard heat lamp or other alternative?

ok but i just see heating a snake with a eletrical bathroom heater very good corect me if im wrong

im not %100 but i think it was a fan heater i could be wrong i did have a pic of the cage if i can find it

Just FYI

A lot of snakes are nocturnal and don't require UV as they will never be out during the day.

Pythons will get their required vitamins from their diet such as vitamine D, calcium from their rats (diet)

Just because water pythons are called "water" pythons, does not mean they can't live without a basking water dish or so, a lot are keept in captivity without basking water bowls etc.

A wild life park should have the best equipment and displays as they are there to display live animals and keep them in top condition, if anything they should be setting by example, their pythons should not have any issues such as shed issues, their enclosures should be better than most keept in captivity as they most likely have the funds to provide for their live stock.

Just my 2 cents, no offense to anyone.

I think a fan heater would be useless, as there will be no, if any gradient heat as it blows the heat out.

If NOBODY believes how bad it was, go have a look for yourself.
You have to see it to understand I guess.

All snakes should have water bowls big enough to soak in.
It even says in the conditions.

I am not saying oh no, gum leaves!, I never knew I had to go into specifics on this site...
I'm saying, I had seen gum leaves in there as well as dirt.
Meaning he has gotten the dirt from outside... could have, will have bacteria and germs in which we, as hepers are trying to eliminate in order to give our pets the best quality of life we can give.

There are a couple of people who know what I'm talking about cause they have been there...
instead of trying to put down what I know I had seen, go have a look then tell me you disagree.

DSE will be the only one to call about it and thats provided they can get out of thier own way to do something! (which in most cases isnt likely)

RSPCA is a group that are just oxygen theives, they wont do anything unless they can get maximum media (tv) coverage from it!

As for the "dirt" issue, there are many people that keep reps on dirt from out of thier own yards there is nothing wrong with this.

I dont think anyone here is in disagreement with you as we have not been down and seen the enclosures etc. It is just some of your arguments have no weight. Using soil and gum leaves as a substrate for example. I fail to see how this is poor husbandry. Wildlife parks usually exhibit their animals in more natural looking enclosures.... this involves soil, sand, logs rocks.

Am i a bad keeper because i have logs in my snake cage? Or that i keep my blueys in outdoor pits on DIRT with GUM LEAVES?

I am not disagreeing as i said about the conditions of the animals. i am just saying some of your examples of neglect are poor.

When the dirt is dry though, it turns dusty...
could this cause respiratory problems?

Outside in pits is fine, as they have constant fresh air, the dirt will not be bone dry and float around in a tank, it's natural.
Inside a tank the dust has nowhere to go.

Josh as was said natural dirt that is found outside is fine ..stop worrying about the dirt ..

Water on the other hand should be clean and refreshed ,poor things cant get to the taps themselves so rely on us humans ..if its as bad as you say it is then its a sad situation but unfortunantly not that uncommon .. :(

Some OK things here, some bad. The old 'dirt & leaves & branches threatening with bacteria, viruses, and mites and all sorts of hideous problems' is something I just don't get. The damned things live their lives (and very good lives at that) in the natural environment, surrounded by dirt, leaves, branches, rocks, insects, arachnids, fungi, even having to drink water without fluoride or chlorine (their teeth must be terrible by the time they reach adulthood...!). They don't even have access to Betadine to disinfect their scratches or gargle when they get a sore throat. How do they survive?

I appreciate the sentiment behind the thread Joshua, but try to be objective about the issues that concerned you. The only people to contact would be the licensing authority in Victoria to whom they are responsible - it is their job to ensure that licence holders comply with their conditions.

Jamie.

RSPCA do a hell of a lot actually.. But with the number of idiotic animal owners out there they have their job cut out for them trying to see to all the complaints.. Perfect example of this is the 50+ kittens a day brought into RSPCA shelters during breeding seasons, not to mention the rest of the animals..
The conditions at this place sound appalling, but it is not the RSPCA's fault, and they don't deserve to be attacked because of other people's mistakes..
