Hey Guys,
I have been keeping snakes for about 4 years now and am thinking of breeding some. I am aware of what dumb questions these will seem to you breeders, but if you could help me out I would be very appreciative.

1. If I breed a Het for albino to another het for albino, what will the outcome be?
2. Would Het for albino darwins be a good place to start my breeding? (If not what is good? As in what sells good and is relatively easy to breed)
3. Am I better of buying a proven breeding pair rather than two separate adults?
3. What else should I know about breeding?

Thanks heaps guys, just trying to get a bit of extra cash rolling in. That way I can buy more snakes :D

Regards, TB

Also one more question:
5. What would I get as a result of breeding a normal to a het for albino.

From what I understand, breeding a het to a het will result in 25% albino, 25% 'normal', and 50% that are het for albinism but appear normal. Breeding a normal to a het will result in 50% normal and 50% het. I'm pretty sure that's right, but anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

On a side note, if you breed a het to an albino you will get 50% albino and 50% het, so that might be the way to go!

Thanks heaps, since you seem to be quite knowledgeable on the subject, what is the whole deal with percentage of het? For example I see some advertised as 66% het for albino

Het to Het will produce 25% Albino and as there is no way of telling which of the others are 100% hets and which ones are not, they will all have a 66% chance of being a het.(2 in 3 are 100% hets)

It means they bred het to het and because of this each normal looking offspring has. 66% chance of being a het.

het x normal = 1/4 het. 3/4 albino
het x het = 1/4 albino 2/4 het 1/4 halbino
het x albino = 1/2 albino 1/2 het
albino x albino = 4/4 albino

my first albino breeding is goign to be het to albino that way i can sell my hets quicker

The first one is half het, half normal. No albinos

spend some extra bucks and buy an albino and buy a 100% het - 1/2 clutch will be albinos 1/2 100% hets keep and grow out albinos sell you hets off.

Win win
exactly my plan already brought my two :D

sorry typing quickly so many spelling mistakes. a het x normal would be a pretty useless breeding.

so what I have always wanted to know is how do you tell what is het and what isn't??????????? Anybody can tell you that you are buying a het but how the hell do ya tell??

I don't think you can tell. You just have to trust the seller.

Hets have no visual differences to normals, the only way you can know they are hets is by breeding them.
If one of the parents were albino then all the offspring will be hets so you wouldnt need to breed them to know they carry the gene.

You can't so hence why there are 66% Hets. Buying Hets you are putting faith in the seller.

I'm glad this post has been put up, I just purchased a 100% het male Darwin so ill be looking for a gf for him in the next year :D
Interesting considering you live in a state where no imports are allowed and darwins are not on the keep list :)

Faith in Seller? but is only a 2 out of 3 chance u get a Het???...U mean 66% is stating the fact that u may not recieve a Het but u have a good chance?

What difference is in 100% het x 100% het Vs 100% het x 66% het? I have a 100% boy, I'm just curious about what sort of gf to get him.

I meant faith in seller buying a 100% Het
Was only asking basicly as this albino thing is confusing...im after the correct info if ALBINO ALBINO r the parent...do they have 100% and 100% hatch rate or r the young weak?
