Finally, after 67 days in the incubator they have started to hatch on Australia Day!
I have lost a few eggs along the way, some early and some later with no obvious reason. Just one of those things I guess.
Lessons learnt:
- 0.8:1 (water:vermiculite) may have been too wet, I'll be trying 0.6:1 next time as eggs were very swollen throughout the incubation period.
- Breeding Australian Pythons book reports a 50 day incubation period, not saying it's wrong but the shortest I have had confirmation of is 56 days, average 62 days and these buggers took 67 days.
- Pipping the eggs at day 56 and cutting windows at day 62 gave me peace of mind they were going ok as I could clearly see they were ok through the windows.
Some pics from my phone, will take better ones once they're all out.
Cheers,
Rob
