I have a black headed python knocking on deaths door. He is realy sick, he ate a mouse about 14 days ago then 3 to 4 days after that the heat light got turned off for 2 days but the floor heating was still working. I feed him about 5 days ago and he ate the mouse but he throught it back up. Since then he has became really sluggish, won't move much, i felt him and he had a lump about 1 ince up from his anul scale.
I took him to the vet, the vet does not deal with snakes but he pushed some fluid and some **** out of him and gave him 5ml of fluid and some antibiodics. Now he is not moving he has move his head once from side to side with his mouth open then he drops. To pick him up he does not support his body or head at all. Its like holding a piece of rope with eyes.
Please if you know what might be wrong or have any ideas what to suggest to the vet i would love to hear it.
I tried to get the vet to ring a vet that knows but they wont and its the only vet in this town.

Hi Sunny,.

Sorry to hear that, it doesnt sound good.
What area are you in?,. you need to get him to a Reptile Vet ASAP,.,. could be too late though,..

Good luck

I live in outback nsw the nearest reptile vet is 500km away. I only have a cattle, cat and dog vet out here.
The flooring is fine sand and large creek stones to large for the snake to swallow.

He is real sick is there any treatment that anyone know might help.

Maybe you could try to get a reptile vet to call your local vet?

alot of snakes can get very sick if they try and eat once they already have food in them. You should never feed your snake untill it has poo'd out the food it last ate. other wise the anal slit gets blocked up then all the acid from its stomach that is inside the rat and broken it up into bones and waste is inside your snakes belly and probly slowly leaking out. If you CARE about your snake ring up a reptile vet tell them whats wrong with the snake find out there address and air mail the snake to the vet, if you cant get to one by car.

why dont you get the rep vet to talk to your local one to explain what he/she can do for the snake and ask the rep vet what you could do as well ...............

If you look in Wiki there is a list of reptile vets for each state.

Id call ur nearest reptile vet, tell them its an emergency and ask what you need to do.

Sorry becca, what you have posted is a load of c**p, whoever told you that is wrong,wrong,wrong......
can you imagine a snake in the wild that has eaten a rat and them 4 or 5 days later another rat runs across his nose. Now is that snake going to think, hey I can't eat that rat as I haven't emptied out as yet......yeah right.

Hey I might be wrong, I'm still learning after 15 years of keeping snakes.

With regard to the BHP, I'm guessing that the next 48 hours will tell the story and it's not going to be a happy ending.

try to give him warm soaks in the bath just to try to get his body movement and temp going, this may help a little bit until you get him to a herp vet, hope the food was fresh no double frozen. anyways good luck...

I think a lot of people in this thread are being very harsh towards Sunny for apparently not caring about her sick snake. It's obvious she does care, as she has taken it to the best vet that she can and failing that has tried to refer to other enthusiasts on here for any more ideas to help it.
It's not like Sunny has gone 'Oh well, this one's no good. Anyone got another bhp for sale cheap?'

Sunny it sounds like this snake may indeed be too far gone, especially given your remote location from knowledgeable vet assistance. However it would still be worth a call to one or more of the specialist vets in the Wiki list on this site to see if there's anything more you can do for your snake.

Good luck.

What type of floor heating are you using and was he using that heat when the light turned off?

yeh you may be right, but its not good for them to eat if they havnt sh** out there food yet, because it can get stuck and that does make them very sick.....

you guys obviously dont no much then, if you dont no if a snake doesnt sh** then they get quite sick....
