dam looks like a warm place to be. lol

Mmmmm toasted python

not a good idea matey, now say 'bad dog!' ooops i men python

We had a Beardie that found it's way up to the UV flouro tube housing . It was very very warm!. I had to pry her out from there a few times until I realised she was climbing a plant. She didn't get burnt.
This was a 'Houdini Beardie' she used to pine for the big outdoors and escaped out of the house for 2 days once.
Em

Was it there long Zoe? Did you find where it was escaping?

it took a few mins to figure out how the bugger got in there...the little turd was going in thru where we cut the wire to allow the cord from the UV to go thru! We musta cut it a bit too big and now i'm not sure what to put there to fix it :? we've taken the cover and the tube out for now until we fix it. i dont think he was there long muddy cos once he finds a place he likes he sticks to it and thats the first time he's been unable to find lol.

i dont want to seem harsh but this sort of thing is in my mind just cant happen all you have to do is make sure every thing is secure and there are absolutly no gaps um that a very easy to spot?
sorry i know these things happen, but realy just look at the inclosure?
there are meany ways to fix gaps with
wood, plastic, wire, some sort of safe putty, glue or silicone (reserch first), tin, cardbourd anything just dont leave gaps??
sorry i dont mean to be a downer but i dont think this should be a problem for any one if you just look and test!
as specialy for small snakes
:)

What about the gaps between the sliding glass on the front doors Luke is that allright or do you have any way to fully seal this gap

ummmmm if i'd known the gap was there i wouldnt have left it...

he's not a tiny snake anyway he's a little over 3 feet i'd say...not that thats huge but he's not teensy lol. i'm gonna go have another look at exactly how big that gap was...

im not sure what you mean but how bout ruber triming?
have you got a pic
ruber triming can be picked up second hand at your local reckers
or a ruber specialist
or get thiker glass

Thats why i don't you light cages, had it been a heat lamp your snake could have been fried, they find their way in and then can't get back out.

im not havin a go zoe
just that when i built my cage and a few for my mates it was second nature to check every where and test the strangth and i find it hard to not notice a gap it some thing that is not ment to have any gaps
but as i said these things happen

Luke no pics at the moment but it has a gap of 3-4 mm between the glass because of the sliding track
i will check at work to see what we have in rubber seals
what size would a young coastal or murray fit through they are about 6 months old

dont know for sure what they can sqeaze though bu i wouldnt have any more than a 5mm gap any where just to be safe
if you can just get thicker glass that sits in th track more snug

ummmm its at the back of the uv tube so unless you have a very flexible head its pretty easy to miss! but anyway, this wasnt intended as a thread so people could admonish me for being a bad snake owner, it was just meant to be humorous...

i went and had another look and the hole actually doesnt look big enuf for him to fit thru...yeah yeah i know, "pythons can fit thru seemly too small spaces"

dobermanmick, there is some stuff that I use on my sliding glass and it?s called Felt Gard.
It?s used as surface protector under furniture, it?s self-adhesive heavy duty felt and you can buy it in strips of 13x1473mm and just cut it to the size you need.
Works perfect for me.
Any Hardware Store, or K-Mart etc should have it.

lol zoe its cool hey iv made wors mistakes (like the fan insident  )
and if you didnt build it i understand completly

Thanks Luke and Artie

ummmm its at the back of the uv tube so unless you have a very flexible head its pretty easy to miss
You mean like a Snake lol
thanks for the warning zoe i will double check everything now

we used something to put inbetween the glass when jules was a baby and it was SHOCKING. it kept moving because the sliding glass was obviously pushing it left and right all the time so we ended up with sticky stuff all over the glass which does NOT COME OFF. choose wisely my dear mick, it needs to be STRONG lol.
