hi all, im having trouble handeling my yearling spotted python.
everytime i open up his enclosure he goes straight into stricking mode, and will keep stricking untill i put him back. (i know i shouldnt put him back but he freaks me out)
is there any tips on what i can do to calm him down?

How long have you had him for? What type of enclosure? Do you come in from above, side or hook him out? Some snakes are a bit cage protective, I know if I put my hand in one of mine, she'll bite, but out she is absolutely fine.

He may well be scared and defensive.

i have had him for about 1 month now.
he is in a 3 ft wooden enclosure with glass sliding doors so i can only approcach from the front and by then his already in a striking pos. i have a hook but he tries to go it as well.
i hope he warms up to me.

Just keep stuffing food into it and see what happens.

My Childrens was like that. What started him to get better was I'd open the cage door, and just sit there quietly. He'd then start being more curious than scared and would come out to sniff my hand, then let me touch him, and then I was able to start handling him. It's a slow process, but it worked for me.
