There are rumors around for some time that woma will be able to purchase on class 1 license in NSW.
I am hearing this for some time now. Is there any real possibility that this will happen?

has anyone approached NPWS? would it be worth starting an online potition or would we be wasting our time? i cant believe they are still on there, they would have to be one of the easiest species to keep and are imo the best. with the numbers now up in captivity its time for it to happen.

Is there anything we can do?
I wander if the authorities would pay any attention to petition from our website.

There is an advisory board that is supposed to represent NSW keepers and advise NPWS/DEC on what species should be on which schedule, i can't think of the name (maybe RKA - Reptile Keeprs Association??), going back a while, Glenn Shea was a member of that group, not sure if he still is.

In any case, they are the ones who, by now, should have made a submission to DEC to have Womas moved from Class 2 to Class 1. If they haven't done this then they need a swift kick up the behind. Perhaps they have though, and DEC have just not done it? We can only guess. I think a petition would be a good start, it should at least get the ball rolling. It would also be a good idea to identify & contact the group mentioned above and find out what they have done, if anything.

If we got 500-1000+ signatures from NSW license holders, that's all that would matter really, the fact it was done through APS, or any other channel for that matter, would be irrelevant IMO.

Thanks Mr Bredli for input.
Best would be to keep this topic live for the time, maybe we will get more information on this issue.
If there is any way aps can help to voice opinion of reptile keepers in NSW, we will.

Any members who are not on APS members for 2 years yet, and have some valid information on this, please sent pm to slateman and He will paste your post in to this discussion.

Yes, Glenn Shea and Gerry Swan are still on that committee, and the woma thing has been bought up the last few meetings... it's basically (according to Glenn) in the hands of Brendon Neally now. Perhaps DECC could let us know what is happening.

im just looking online for Brendon neilly's email but can only seem to find his phone number a address at the DECC, anyone know his email? i wouldnt mind talking to him about the issue.

woma
because i cant post on your stupid veterans posts I'll pm you.
The National Reptile Keepers Association has been campaigning for various things like this. A petition could help speed things up. You could also contact Anthony Stimpson and ask if NRKA are doing anything in this area. He is the chairman and it would give him another thing to do. You would of course get good support from people like John Weigel etc who would see the move to class one as opening up the hobby and it wouldn't hurt his business venture either..
cheers

Class 1 Woma's?

The movement of Woma pythons to a class 1 licence has been raised by the Native Animal keepers Consultative Committee. This matter is being considered along with a number of other reforms. Any decision regarding Woma’s is likely to be come into play with the other matters under consideration.

I am really looking forward to seeing them on class 1.
My womas will be breeding by then lol

Do you have any idea of when this will be happening? a month, a few months, end of next year, few years?

thanks
Jason

I received few e-mails from people who are more informed than I. And looks like things are on the move.

If the move happened would this increase the price of Woma's in general ?.

Hey Slateman, It seems i cant PM you this so i'll just right it here.
Can you bump up your thread from a while ago about womas to class 1 please. ( http://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/v...1-in-nsw-92731 ) Because i'm interested if there is any news about what is happening about this and also could you ask if there is any news about them going to the Basic license in Victoria from the Advanced license.
Thanks Slateman,
Dan.

not sure if this info is correct but i heard that because they are endangered in a few areas they wont drop because it would likely allow or somewhat encourage poaching of the uncommon and potentially endangered localities. i guess only time will tell, i hope they drop, they are truely imo the best animals and should be available to everyone
