Yeah western beardies arnt great imo, they are sooooo tiny, even the fully grown adults are itty :(

Lol yeh they really cute... specially with their "techno dance" strob style movements :p
but i just couldnt see anyone who would consider that it would go back into the enclosure, to let one out!! you'd lose it before you had let it past the doors!

The Guy
To be fair, we do not take lay-bys and just list reptiles on our site when they become available. We will in a couple of month’s time have available captive bred, stimsons and they can be picked up at Perth airport for $380.
Alternatively we will have heaps of wild caught hatchlings as well but they will not be any cheaper than captive bred.
If you ring around a few shops you may find what you are looking for but I suggest that you get a guarantee that the snake is feeding, wormed and that they will replace it for you if you can not get it feeding ( providing you are looking after it correctly ).
We are not posting here just to gain a sale. I just wanted to make it clear that there are more than few good dealers around the Perth area and the quality of their stock are often no better or worse than each other.

Cheers Dave

Hey Pilbara...
when you say a couple of monthes time... when roughly would this be?!
im hopefully looking at getting one in early january (id get one sooner however a family trip over to thailand would mean id have to leave it here for a couple of weeks without the proper care and im definetly not going to do that.) however if things go bad (ie i cannot get a liscence till my 18th birthday in early april) then ill have to wait till then.)
btw this raises another question!!
age you need to be to gain a cat 3 liscence in WA anyone? some people say theres not a limit whilst others have said 18! anyone with genuine knowledge?!

It is eighteen...You can put it in your Mom or Dad's names if you like though, that is what I did..

I actually forgot to mention the fact that by law we as farmers have to hold onto captive bred reptiles for a minimum time of three months. A harsh rule, but a licence condition none the less. Wild hatchlings realistically will be available around mid February.

Cheers Dave

Hey that guy - break your parents in with a beardie. Mine could never get used to the idea of a snake, but after lobbying for one for a while they were relieved when I 'settled' for a lizard. You can also feed beardies food besides rodents. Many mothers don't like having mice in the freezer (as if a well-wrapped mouse is going to contaminate anything...). I've actually had people ask me if I've ever accidentally thawed a mouse for dinner - as if!

When you become a parent, remember to let your kids get a snake! My daughter spent most of her 3rd grade year researching snakes in the school library, so we got her a stimson for her birthday (I'm license holder). We went to a herp society meeting before purchasing to see a couple of animals and talk to experienced keepers. They were all delighted to see a mother and kid there. I think many people go through what you are experiencing.

Pilbara
Thats good to hear!!
Do you know if there would be any Captive bred around that time?! would they be later or are they hatching around now?! so they'd be earlier...
id probably want to lean towards a CB rather then a WC if i had a choice. just some stories u hear about parasites and such...

Thanks "mum" haha :p
yeh...i have thought about this possibility...however im not sure if ill be able to keep up with all the food, and constant care for an animal i wont ever be able to hold outside its enclosure... i mean it wouldnt be a problem doing it however i could see that i mite later in the future slacken off a bit...

I was in the same situation a couple of months ago. Wasnt sure who to buy from or what to get etc. I did my research and used - www.westaussiereptiles.com.au - Gary is his name. I found him to be very helpful and professional in his dealings, you can choose the snake and he can supply you with all the set up without the bs that some people try to lay on you. Check him out you wont be sorry. Good luck.

I am also from perth. I got my stimson from pet magic success and i can go in there anytime and Nikki always helps me sometimes chatting for up to an hour so lots of help for after you have purchased. I paid $395 for a 7 month old. Also been to reptile trader he is great offering heaps of help and i was in there yesterday and he had stimsons but adults i think as with pet magic. i am having trouble getting a decent enclosure over at the moment it would be chaeper to get one from parkers enclosures and have it sent here. which is the way i'm leaning. good luck.

Im in Perth too and have had dealings with a few of the different sellers. Whilst I can understand the appeal of big stores which let you hold and play with the animals, I dont know if I really agree with many of their keeping methods. These are the stores that dont have reptiles as their primary business. I wont name any stores but it is usually pretty easy to tell i.e a big give away is monitors with no toes due to inadequate heat and hydration, snakes that do not shed etc. Its just my opinion but I think many of these are just in it for the quick sell and dont really care about the animals. Even if I saw a great looking animal in these stores I wouldnt buy from them as i dont want to give them my support.

These days I only go through the specialist dealers. Both Gary and Dave are great, and you can be assured that you are getting a quality animal and the advice is from experience.

Another bonus is that if you ever want to become more serious about your animals, these guys can tell you the exact locality type of specimen you have- trust me it makes a big difference when getting into breeding programs.

ie. Perth Aquarium :x

The poor ridgetail monitor in there is in the smallest enclosure evvvvveeeerrrr >>, the substrate is disgustingly dirt covered in crap and bugs. Looks like it hasn't been cleaned in yonks. And to mention no freaking basking light?! They have one but its either or broken or they don't bother to turn it on, arnt monitors supposed to have scorching temps. All they have is this puny fluorescent light .

And not to mention the state of some of their fish.

Anyway, end of rant
