There will be meeting to discuss the proposed sale of reptiles through petshops in NSW at the end of August.I was ask to post this by fellow forum member to let people know.He will try get and give more details at a later date.
There will be a meeting of who? the committee set up by NPWS to make policy and recomendations,or a meeting of the association of pet retailers. Before i go on a rant ide like to know the facts but ide probably say it would be a good idea if it were more the specialty shops allowed to sell.First bluetongue i bought was at cabramatta pet shop in 1968 and that got me going, they was all kept in wire bird cages and was wild caught, surely specialist shops can employ experienced people and manage class one species these days its not rockett science. :)

Just slightly off topic....

Whats the go with the local pet shops starting to sell salamanders?
I mean are they classed as amphibians?

Strange1 they are most likely just morphed axolotyls, not sure of the specifics but by lowering the water gradually (and perhaps changing the chemistry of the water?) you can sometimes induce metamorphosis in Axolotyls, then the pet shops sell them for ridiculous prices giving the customer the misbelief that they are salamanders of the ''non-axolotyl kind''.
Many pet shops sell tropical fish, when i kept tropical fish i found them more of a challenge to keep healthy than many reptiles are, i think perhaps simple to keep species of reptiles could be allowed in pet shops without to many problems, with the over the top prices on many reptiles the shops may be inclined to learn how to keep their stock alive, it would be worse for them to lose a $300 python than a $5 guppy. Yet in saying that we have all heard horror stories of bad pet shops out side of NSW.

Yeah Parko I knew they were morphing them out of Axolotyls, It just still seems to be breaching some kind of law or cheating or something! lol

Lol Strange1 ''hey that's cheating!''. Nevertheless they are still just an axolotyl which hypocritically can be legally kept even though an exotic amphibian.
