I feed my 6month old stimmie once a week and he seems to be fine. But i gues when u have a stimsons theres no point in power feeding as it's never going to get very big. But i have heard alot about powerfeeding of bredli and how it affects their fertility but considering i dont own one i wouldn't trust my judgement.

I have snakes of all ages. Like I said Most of my snakes eat fortnightly, and some eat weekly and some eat ever 3-4 weeks;)

Cheers Lewy

Thanks, clear as mud haha ;) So weekly, fortnightly, every 3 weeks or monthly, it's all good haha.

Reckon I'll be sticking to my current schedule of every 7-9 days for now.

So how does this size up for a 6 month old Bredli, average? Fat?

I feed my 2.5 year old bredli when he looks hungry, which he does now. He will get fed this tuesday or wednesday when i get paid.
He almost always gets fed fortnightly. He has been on 2 medium rats for the last few months, but for the last 2 feeds he has been eating a single full rat with no troubles.
He is about 6 foot long.
He usually goes off his food when he is coming up to a shed, and prefers to try and eat my arms instead.
I have the enclosure running quite hot because the temperatures down here are very cold in victoria this time of year.

All my growing snakes are attached to a drip, so as they have a constant supply of rat mush going into their bodies. My adults live off the memory of eating.

question: say you have a childrens python, that would normaly grow to about 1meter, if you power fed it and it reached 1meter in just over a year, would it stop growing or would it keep growing until it gets to a certain age?

For years it was believed that snakes never stop growing, the just slow down incredibly as adults. I'm not sure if this is still believed these days. In any case, it is still possible to get adults past their average adult size, and this is where larger meals come in. Adults seem to grow bigger on larger animals (rabbits are excellent for this), as opposed to a few smaller meals at once.

Some species grow much faster than others. Olives seem to grow quickly on infrequent meals, while diamonds seem to grow slow even if fed very frequently.

if a python spent say its 1st 15-18 months on a slow feed rate and was undersized would that snunt its overal size as an adult?

i bought a pair or darwins of a mate who had them on a slow feed rate as he had them in tubs until he had a decent viv for them, weeks turned to month and so on so on than i got them, im feeding them weekly now and there growing stedily now but will they get to full size or always be small

hehehe....i like it...i just want to know where you stick the needle in??

i converted to power feeding 2 months ago, went from feeding my pair of 6 month old bredli's every 7 to 10 days weaner mice to fuzzy rats every 4 days and i absolutely luv the growth rate they've achieved in that time. i do plan to slow it down as they get older tho...
and i have no real plans to breed in the future..
Ever heard of fatty liver disease?? If you want a large snake by a scrubbie or olive!! I feed 20% of snakes weight, with my 6 month bredli I feed every 7 days and she is currently 60cm, my male bredli who is 16 months is still getting fed every 7 days and will continue to do so until he reaches breeding size or starts to lose definition in the spinal area, he is currently 130cm, both snakes I feel are good sizes and in excellent condition, a lean snake is a healthy snake in my opinion only reason I would power feed is before I would try and breed a female..Thats my 2c worth any ways!!

l have had non feeders that didnt eat for many months , when they started again l would feed every few days to help them catch up . It can depend on age , size , condition [ getting ready for breeding etc ] .

im new to this. how often are you suppose to feed ya snakes. i have a coastal carpet python and i feed him once a week on a weaner rat. is that too much. he is around 4 1/2 foot and around 3yrs old.

i did say that i plan to slow it down later...i have done some research on the topic from previous threads on here and i do believe those problems mainly occur when adult snakes are continually powerfed. i only plan to powerfeed my pair in their first year then I plan to feed more accordingly. and i do give mine a 10 day break once a month to fully empty out

It was explained to me this way................ that to power feed, reduces the life ot your snake. Apparently, the guy was saying that if your snake has a life expectancy of 30 years, it's growth should take place over five years, you feed it to make it grow sooner, and you take years off the end of the animals life. Better to allow the snake to grow at about the same rate it would in the wild,......... slowly................ far less problems that way. I would hate to lose my snake in it's early 20's. knowing that because of my actions in its early life, I've taken away the chance to have it with me that much more longer.

I feed mine seasonally, for the first two years weekly in summer, Fortnightly in Spring/Autumn and I only feed in Winter if they start losing weight. If you don't feed for a few months they stay lean but also gain Muscle mass.

Well overdue for an upgrade, put him onto 150gm rats, weekly for now.

What are you feeding your 6 month old? How big is she compared to mine? (see pic posted earlier in this thread)

What is the cause of fatty liver disease? Are you suggesting it is influenced by frequency of feeding?or Quantity of feeding? or Quality of feeding?
