hey guys,

just wondering what python you think is better in:
*Temperament
*Colour
*pattern
*personality

temperament being the most part of your choice. please vote which one is best in these categories and if you can, post why you chose it (eg. very good tempermament or colour, etc.)

any pics will also be great.

thanks

these are the pythons that i am thinking of getting in a few months. i can only choose one though and will only get it in a few months

sorry bout that but if you want to vote or post an answer, that would be great. helps me make up my mind for what python to get later

I picked diamond because out of the selection above they have GREAT temperaments, as do womas, but diamonds have more vibrant colours. I said black and yellow because those will be the higher quality bloodlines, generally speaking. personality wise, i would say the aspidites tend to spend more of their time out of sight than diamonds, if thats what is reffered to as part of personality. Because apart from the temperament, personality is not so much dependant on species, but more of the individual snake e.g 9/10 water pythons are bastards, but there will be tonnes of good ones too with curious natures etc.
again, my two cents, disagree if you will, but if you do i will encourage you to agree to disagree.

wow. thx for the gr8 respond. wat do u think about BHP's. are they usually very placid like diamonds??????

i went with MD although there not the most colourfull python out there! they can get real nice patterns andd are so placid is incredible!
only time ive been bit by my was when i didnt was my hands after holding her dinner! and not cage aggressive at alll!!!

whatever you want to keep and just wait till you find a placid one.......there are placid jungles if you want, you just might need to wait a while to find one.

yeah i know. just want to know wat you guys think about these pythons from your experiences. generally, would like to know which is the most placid and best looking. more answers to convinve me would be great.

i still have a long while till i actually get it as my mum doesn't allow another python for the moment but hopefully could get one in the expo homebush.

so any more answers would be great.

thx

blackheadeds and womas dont generally bite out of fear but when they do its a feeding response so they bite and hold on, most jungles will bite out of fear, so they strike at you and let go. Dont handle BHPs or Womas at night when they are in feeding mode and you should be fine. A calm jungle is the same. Haven't owned a diamond but have seen a few of a mates and they were the same, no food they were calm, but food around - dont stick your hand in the enclosure!

well. over all in general. how would you rank the pythons from best to worst placidness ot temperament in your idea????

r there BHP's which are extremely placid both inside and outside of cage????

I hook my female bhp out and she is fine, i juts dont let the pointy end get near my flesh. My male bhp i reach in and grab by hand......he will try and slither away and hiss a bit but once out will calm down and occasionally hiss - that is all. My womas are more of a striking kind of snake - if they are hiding under the paper and I lift the sheet they will strike at the moving paper - so i just hook them out and they are fine.

Its all about learning how each snake reacts and then learning how to handle it.

Womas and BHPs are generally the calmest and I would agree that they make for great captives - just dont attempt to pick them up come feeding time.

Sometime even a calm jungle will still be a bit flighty an jittery but a calm woma or bhp will be very calm and wont care what you are doing.

no one species is better than the other, as mentioned there are calm and blood hungry examples of every species. pick what you like and hope for the best.

i just got bitten by an asian house gecko so don't keep any of them. bloody savage nearly took my finger off ;)

stu - hahaha!!! big mean gecko hey! Cant wait to see you get a monitor!

was goin to catch it for you dave but they are exotic, don't want to get in trouble

but honestly all the animals listed on the voting thingo usually have a reasonably good temper about them. get a hatchling and you'll get used to it as it grows.

I'd personally go the Murray Darling (although they are my fav).
Theyre very easy going pythons and as such i have heard people refer to them as dog snakes because of there very placid nature and personalities.
I have a 2yo female and a hatchy male and neither of the two have even looked at striking at me even when my hand is in their enclosures.
I also think that they are a very underrated python.
Over all, if its your first snake i wouldnt go past an MD but its your choice so go with what you like.
